Albertans have always subscribed to the idea of "go big or go home". That's why they're the powerhouse province of Canada in sport, in business, in oil, in just about anything they try (including saving money.)
So should you be surprised that Alberta, the host of the 1988 Calgary Olympics, would have not one but THREE facilities for whoopin' it up?
This one is in the Rocky Mountaineer Station and will be a "special events venue for Alberta Day, for Opening & Closing celebrations, as well as a rental facility for the Olympic Family and related corporate partners."

As only the Russians can do, this is one of the key pavilions to be at during the Olympics. In fact, it opens on Feb. 11, even before Canada's official pavilion (which, surprisingly, opens the day after the 2010 Opening Ceremony.)
Called Russky Dom, the Science World dome will have extensive programming.
The successors to Vancouver, Sochi's organizing committee have lots planned for the public, and there will be nightly celebrations. There will be Russian cuisine, opportunities to meet Olympic stars and to collect autographs and more. Look for Sochi to also pull off a few surprises, too.
While this is the main Russian site, there is also a Russian tall ship in port on the North Shore and the country's national Olympic Committee has a private invitation-only house in the Mario's Gelati building near the Vancouver athletes village.

Expected to feature Ontario products and culture, it will also have a visitors' lounge as welll as offer private hosting facilities.
The sole reference I can find to the pavilion is this note:
"The upcoming 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver presents a unique and powerful opportunity to connect with thousands of potential new customers for your agri-food enterprise. The "best of Ontario" products and services will be featured at the Games' Ontario pavilion Feb.12-28, enhanced by experiential programming, such as celebrity chef demonstrations and culinary wine or beer pairings and tastings. Concord Pacific, which bought the old Expo 86 site from the provincial government and has been slowly developing it as an inner-city neighborhood, has also created an Olympic nucleus by agreeing to host many of the government and corporate pavilions. "Family Fun:

Some of the free live acts over the 17 day period include Bedouin Soundclash and the Arkells. Concord Place is also home to Molson Canadian Hockey House Live acts and hosting, the International Ice Hockey Federation, Tourism Vancouver, BC Housing and Concord’s Community Hat-trick Supporter, Global TV BC!
Concord Pacific’s Community Hat-trick Shootout
Everyone's a winner when you and your kids put your hockey skills to the test. Prizes include Hockey Canada hats and Concord toques. At some point in every day, a kid will have a chance to win one of a limited number of Hockey Canada signed jerseys. Daily from 11:00am – 4 pm with daily appearances of Hockey Canada alum.
The real prize is in helping out the community. For every goal you score, Concord will donate a tooney to local Community Centres for after school programs!

It's a great example of how things can get done at the last minute when you have to; Ottawa only announced the $10.4 million project on Nov. 17, after it had earlier ruled out putting erecting its own pavilion.
This one, a two-storey prefab building, was constructed by U.S.-based Exhibitgroup/Giltspur, which got the contract for $9.3 million. (The rest goes for programming.)
At the 2006 Turin and 2008 Beijing Games Canada joined with B.C. in building and operating a cooperative pavilion, but this time decided to go it alone in large part because every other province has their own pavilion and the feds didn't want to be seen favoring B.C. Or so the story goes.

In the Robson Square complex there is the BC Pavilion on the fourth floor of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Also programming on the square itself: see the list here.
There is also the B.C. Showcase, inside the lower Robson Square, and it has a little secret, too: the front entrance is graced by two ornately-carved doors that were created for the extremely popular 2006 BC Canada Place pavilion at the 2006 Turin Winter Games.
The doors were created by Squamish native Aaron Nelson-Moody. When the Turin Games ended, the log pavilion was left behind as a hiking hut but the government insisted the doors come back to B.C. They languished in a warehouse until I did this story on them.
Here's the government's description of the showcase:
"Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the LEED Gold certified British Columbia Showcase (BC Showcase) will play an important role in the Province of British Columbia’s 2010-related activation. The BC Showcase is comprised of two connected spaces; one highlighting the Province through multimedia presentations and interactive displays, the other a versatile hosting area. This is the pavilion for the four Atlantic provinces coming to the Games - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Along with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, they've pitched in $4.5 million to bring to the West Coast a taste of culture, food, industry and entertainment. It will likely be shades, only brighter and more modern, of their efforts the last time they were in town at the 1986 World Expo across False Creek.
Although their website is still under construction, it's worth bookmarking.

Starting Feb. 4 and running through to the end of the Games, the 10,000-watt lights will "create a quiet canopy" that will be seen up to 15 kilometres away. From the tops of the North Shore mountains to UBC and even to Richmond, the light show is expected to attract more than two million sets of eyes.
Co-commissioned and sponsored by Vancouver's 2010 public art program, the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, Olympic sponsor Bell and the province of Quebec.

Those crafty Saxons!. They may not be the "official" Germans at the Olympics but they sure know how to party - and how to get attention.
Saxony House is a promotion of the State of Saxony, nominally an effort to highlight athletes from the state located in former East Germany. But it's also an effort to raise attention for a state that has a hard time competing tourist-wise with better-known Bavaria.
For Vancouver the Saxons have taken over the Vancouver Rowing Club, a Tudor-style clubhouse at the entrance to Stanley Park

West Vancouver's premier shopping centre has joined the (non) Olympic parade of communities celebrating the Olympics with their own winter carnival, complete with an outdoor skating rink using "synthetic ice."
From Feb. 12-28, Park Royal will operate the rink free of charge. It runs through Main Street in The Village.
Skating Canal: noon to 10pm
Beverage Tent: 4pm to 10pm
They say this will be "the largest community celebration on the North Shore during the 2010 Olympics and everyone is invited to come skate for free, rain or shine. We won’t even be hampered by any warm weather because our ice is synthetic and while it looks and feels almost like the real thing, we won’t have to rely on a very fickle Mother Nature."
Bring your own skates as rentals are limited.
Attendees will experience the magic of skating outside and that special feeling of a community coming together.NBCShowNBC Today ShowNBC Today Show by GeocacheGeocache|WaymarkNBC Today ShowWaymarkOther11British ColumbiaNBC Television will broadcast its Today Show from the Grouse Nest
