For those that are interested, the Blitz results may be viewed at:
We will also be posting the raw data.
You may notice what looks like inconsistancies in the actual winners and the raw data. This is due to several considerations.
1) The number of votes. In the raw data it may appear that certain winners are not on the top of the list. This is due to the fact that a low number of votes can skew the results. A certain cache that received two votes and received a perfect score will rank higher than a cache that received 10 votes and almost a perfect score when the truth of the matter is more people gave the latter cache a perfect score and that was taken into consideration.
2) Amalgamation. We decided that there will be one prize handed out per geocaching handle. However there are many instances where a certain cache won more than one category. By the same token there were people that placed several good caches that won high honours. All of this was taken into consideration and the cacher with the highest score was bumped up to best cache "overall" or a better pick at the prize table. Then the second prize winners were bumped up to first place. This was much more fair for everyone involved as it kept one geocacher from running away with all the prizes.
3) Void Votes. We checked all the winners an voided any votes made by the cache owners. We also checked all cache voters and voided all submissions from anyone that appeared to be deliberately skewing votes.
In the case of the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island South, and the Kootenay / Rockies regions there are several void caches. BCGA Directors may not benefit from volunteer work, hence, they cannot win prizes. So all directors caches are void.
Thank you to everyone that participated in the BCGA Cache Blitz and everyone that donated prizes. Thank you to our sponsors GPScity, Landsharkz and Worldcaching who were very generous this year.
Lastly, congratulations to the winners. This was a fun, if not hectic month for the BCGA. What will we do next? Stay tuned. There's always another event on the horizon.
