Would anyone like to give me a tutorial on how to add images and backgrounds to a new cache page?
I have tried adding an image and haven't been able to get it to work.
I tried using HTML so maybe that is wrong, not sure.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice.

Hi grafinator,

The first thing that you have to do is upload an image. I place most of my images on a free image hosting website like Photobucket. You can upload a photo from the "upload image" option on the menu to the right of the cache page:

Once you click there, you will get a screen like the following in which you enter the particulars:

Once you do that, if you scroll down the cache page for which you want to place a picture or a background on, you'll notice the pic url link at the bottom:

If you click on it, you'll see the url at the top of your browser (most of the time) for where it was uploaded to. It will commonly look something like this:

img.geocaching.com/cache/blahblahblahblah.jpg

You will want to cut and paste this url into the following html tags and put them on your "edit cache page". You will want to √ the html option on the "edit cache page":

<img src="http://img.groundspeak.com/cache/blahblahblahblah.jpg" align="left">

The html above is to insert an image and to align it to the left. You can change the alignment. Don't forget to check that you've put in the quotation marks.

For the background image, it used to be a little more difficult, and you had to use a tag like:

<body background="http://img.groundspeak.com/cache/blahblahblahblah.jpg">

But now, all you have to do is paste the url in the link on the edit cache page that looks like this:

I don't know if any of this helps, and there are more tech savvy html gurus out there, but this seems to have always worked for me. Very Happy

I am inserting a picture on my cache page but I am having trouble getting the image to be centred. The only way I have been able to get it to work is using hspace. Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

simplest way without going into a table layout is to put a center tag around the image.

ie:
<center>
<img src="your url here">
</center>

you can also play with the image tag itself, you can get some interesting results..
<img src="your url here" align="middle">

the align can be left,right,middle etc (google "html img" for all the options).

Using a table layour you can pretty much put anything where you want

<table align="center">
<tr>
<td align="center">
<img src="your url here">
</td>
</tr>
</table>

When you click on a picture that is on your cache page now, no seperate url pops up like it used to. Now we get the pic over top of the page. If you go to the cache page gallery, and click on the pic, it just brings up the cache page again, and not the pic. Can any of you tell me how to get a URL for the pic, so I can put it on a cache page? I've been trying to figure it out now for about 4 hours, and am having no luck!
Thank you!

If you right click on the link to the image you will get a pop up menu. Select copy link location and it will be copied to you clip board. The just hit Ctrl v to paste it into your cache page.

All I can get when I click on the link to the pic, or when I click on the pic itself, is either copy, copy shortcut, or save target as. None of those seem to work, and I don't have a copy link location anywhere. Any other ideas? Keep in mind I am almost completely computer illiterate. Rolling Eyes
Thanks!!!

You should get the option when you right click on the link to "Open Link in New Window". If you do that, then you should be able to copy the URL at the top of the page.

If you use Internet Explorer you will not get the copy link, I use Firefox. Sorry I was not aware of the difference.

You should be able to right click on them, then select Properties. The url should be listed there as well. Should be able to copy/paste it straight out of there.

I got it! I don't know how though. I can't do it again now. WHen I "open the link in a new window" it is just a link to the cache page, not the picture.
Somehow after clicking evrything again and again and trying different combos, I finally got the right URL for just the pic, so I copied it and got the pic on my cache page. SO at least the cache page is done for now and waiting for review. Now I just gotta figure out how I did it so I can do it again next time!!

Thanks, the property thing works! ANd I figured out how I did it before too - I clicked on "edit"(the pic) and then right clicked on pic, and then the "open link in new window" has the right URL.
Thanks for the info everybody! Very Happy
