I still haven't mastered the art of setting up cache pages with the HTML box checked. I just submitted a cache for review and thought it would be cool to add the BCGA banner at the bottom of my description. It worked, BUT all the paragraphs disappeared into one large mass which is hard to read, especially as my descriptions are wordy enough.

I tried putting extra return spaces between the paragraphs, but nothing changed. Then of course when I quickly unchecked the HTML box to return everything as before, that didn't happen without the paragraphs being narrower so I deleted the whole description and started over, leaving it to the basic.

What do I need to do to keep the paragraph spaces when copying & pasting the banner or the logo onto my cache page description?

I have lots more questions regarding making the cache pages more interesting etc., but will leave them for a future date.

P.S. Have never entered the forums before so not sure if I'm doing this correctly.

I tend to use the break command, <br>, to keep my formating paragraph wise.

technically a <p> tag around each paragraph works well
Code::
<p>Welcome to my cache</p>
a <hr> line puts a horizontal line across the page
a <br/> tag is a single line break, simular to a paragraph.
images are not hard to put in, just a bit tricky to find the name of the image.
Post an image to your new cache (before you activate it).
Once it shows up on the page, click on the image until is alone in the browser.
COPY the URL in the browser, then use tha URL in the image tag.

Code::
 <img src="copied url here">

to really get fancy, you probably have to master TABLE layouts.
There are lots of references and samples on the web, just google.

to test, just create a file on your computer such as test.html, then open it with your browser from your local disk. (click on it probably will open it in your browser).

Thanks for the advice. Very Happy Will have to try some of the suggestions for my new caches. I can hardly wait. (BUT I will have to wait for a few days before I have the time!) Will let you know how I make out. Thanks again.

P.S. How do you guys figure this stuff out? It's great that you can share your expertise!

Well, for me it's just experience I'm an Information Technology Specialist (used to call us programmers) and have been Building Websites since websites started to appear on the internet. Im not the 'artist' behind the sites, more the business rules implemenation, but certainly have to implmenent a lot of graphic artists vision.

As for me, I've just been playing with it since HTML 2.0. I'd have no clue how to do flash, or java or any of those new fun tools, which is a dang shame. I saw some flash puzzles the other day that would make dandy geo-cache coordinate hiders for puzzle caches. Smile

Just tried putting in the BCGA logo into a new cache that I'm submitting and it worked! Thanks for the info & help from the previous cachers' logs (eg. how to pu in the paragraph breaks when using HTML etc.)

Now for another question which is similar.

I was just reading the forums on the link GC Canada forums under a post concerning placing caches close to the Trans Canada. I did know the info that I read about putting TCDN in your cache name if the cache was within 3 km of the Trans Canada, had a difficulty no more than 2 & takes no more than 30 mins. to find. I actually have used it in one of my caches, and have 3 more awaiting approval with this designation attached in the title as well as the added BC to the end. (TCDNBC)

One of the cachers named wavector designed a graphic with text and posted the command to put in the logo for TCDA which I was successful in putting in on one of my new caches, until I realized it was for the TCDA and not TCDN. (you'll note that there is much discussion on this thread as to which to use and I think the final decision was to use TCDN). If anyone knows the command to get in the TCDN logo I'd be grateful to be able to copy it to use it. This might be considered useful also on the BCGA website under the "logos" page as well as the BCGA ones.

An example of what I'm hoping to add to my cache pages is on this cache: TCDNBC - Last Chance (GCR7V2).

You can try this. You'll need to modify the additional info (Direction/RV Access) based on the specifics of your cache.

Code::
<p><a href="http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=TCDNBC&amp;submit4=Find">
<img src="http://www.bcgeocaching.com/images/TCDN.gif" width="450" height="85" border="0" alt=""></a><br>
Type: <strong>TCDNBC</strong> Direction: <strong>East&amp;West</strong> RV Access: <strong>Yes</strong></p>
<p>You can search for all <strong>TCDNBC</strong> caches by clicking the image above</p>

Thanks so much! I copied and pasted the info you had in my new cache Quickie 'Tween Chase & Sorrento (TCDNBC) and it worked like a charm. Wish I could have centred it, but not sure how.

BUT why can't I get it to work in my other TCDNBC caches? I did the same copy/paste and it just shows text. see GCY079 Maguire Lake Park - A Friendly Place (TCDNBC) I've left it for now so if you get a chance would you mind checking it to see what I mean and give me advise as to what I'm doing wrong.

I really appreciate all the help that all you guys have given me to spruce up my cache pages!

Change the two <p> to <p align="center"> in the HTML code above.

You need to edit your cache description and make sure the checkbox beside where it says "The descriptions below are in HTML" is checked and then redo the copy-and-paste of the HTML code above. You will also need to wrap each of your cache description paragraphs in <p> and </p> tags.

Now you're a web developer! Wink

Wow! What a feeling of accomplishment making changes to my cache pages has been! Slowing working my way through them. Not sure now if I like the TCDN graphic/info centered or not. Hey this is so cool -- I'm slowly getting the hang of this! So, if I went to a web page course (not the heavy duty one for professionals) would I learn some of these things? Now I'm itiching to try so much more like changing fonts & adding colour etc. I think I'm going to try experimenting. This has opened up a whole new world for me! Thanks again.
