Has anybody been around since the beginning (or nearly the beginning) of Geocaching? around the years 2000/2001?

I'm curious what it was like... what your motivations might have been for playing, and how many caches were around.

I haven't been around that long, so I can't give you any info about experiences or motivations. However, I can point you to a bookmark list I made recently that lists the first 100 caches hidden in BC. The first one wasn't hidden until Feb 2, 2001, and the 100th a little over a year later. There weren't many caches to be found in BC in 2001, and none in 2000.

Check out some of those older caches Th-A-Team linked to, then scroll down to the bottom of the logs. Some of those caches have a decent amount of finds on them, but others have few finds. Also take a look at some of the usernames from those old logs, some you may recognize from nowadays.
