I came across a Vancouver company today that offers "Introduction to Geocaching" courses at $50/head. Is this common? It offended me a bit -- geocaching has always seemed like a pretty community-driven and "free" activity -- but I don't knock their right to offer these courses at whatever price they can get. Seriously though ... the BCGA Geocaching 101 courses are much better value. Intro to GC plus meet the community.

Maybe I'm just too idealistic.

Both Catapult Jeff, SeekandGo Hide, myself and many other local cachers have given FREE courses in geocaching at local community centers and in the schools and Scouting groups.
Would be nice if the BCGA and its members could set up some local courses sponsored by them from time to time using local cachers and a set course outline... or something like that.

I don't really want to call him out in public. Email me at aerodoq at gmail dot com and I'll send you the link. The site has changed a little bit, and the guy organizing the event has put up a blog post explaining where he's coming from.

For what it's worth, this guy got a *lot* of local coverage in the news. CBC and Global both ran stories on him. It's very discouraging that he can get coverage and the BCGA doesn't.
