In September of 2008, Gold Country Communities Society
received confirmation of funding from Western Economic Diversification of Canada, Northern Development Initiative Trust, Southern Interior Pine Beetle Action Coalition and Gold Country Communities to create a Geotourism Program
to invigorate tourism interest in the area. There is so much to see in the area and a program such as Gold Country Geotourism helps to bring travelers, tourists and locals off the main highway and out into the small communities and backroads to discover tales of our pioneers, unearth the geological wonders and reveal some magnificent scenery. Geotourism provides all the fun of geocaching, with an added tourism twist.
Visit sites throughout the region, collect stickers and geo-coins and win great prizes! Engage in this FREE recreational activity by logging onto www.goldtrail.com/
or visiting Visitor Information Centres throughout the region.
So pack a snack and set off to discover historical sites, amazing views, hidden secrets, rare wilderness and community gems throughout Gold Country. While exploring the outdoors remember to ‘Cache In & Trash Out’ in the world-wide geocaching effort to preserve the environment.
The family approach to geocaching and the Gold Country Geotourism Program make this FREE EDUCATIONAL activity a unique holiday destination.
Watch for the announcement of our July 4th launch event, which will soon be posted on geocaching.com. 72 sites will “go live” on that date and full details will be posted on our website. Also, be sure to check out the Gold Country map, also posted on our website full article
