www.google.com/latitude/intro.html

A very cool phone/web application.

Works many phones that can run Google Maps.

When you set up a partnership with an friend , you can see their location.

I have been playing with it with a few other cachers, its kind of fun.

Of course you have full control when you're running the application, and even who/when you want to share.

All your buddies show up on a google map, as little moving icons.

If anyone wants to try it with me, drop me a note via my Geocaching.com contact and I'll pass along my gmail address.

I watched Canadian Bacon sit at work well passed his go home time last night. Once we figured it out he was able to see me travel around Surrey. Kinda cool and creepy all at once. It will work well on a caching road trip.

That sounds like a cool idea. I see some great benefits get the local FTF hounds added and then you can see if you have a chance to get it sooner Smile
Now how do I convince them to cooperate???

If I ever have kids, I will definitely be putting this on the phones.

I like that idea.

Hmm.. No kids now.. By the time you're kids would need a phone, this stuff will be so pervasive you will probably not have to install anything. It will just be something available to you easily.

My kids have cell phones, but would not turn this on! Even though they are good kids, they still don't want me knowing exectly where they are at all times.

I am impressed with the accuracy of the location when using the Cell Id only (not gps). Had me within a block or two, but it only updates every few minutes. Hey not good enouph for caching, but better than nothing in a pinch.

A new way to see who you're in the race for the FTF.. lol

So everyone is now going to have PDA's with this so when the cache alert comes out they can do a quick check..

Based on what I've seen in the races so far that could be interesting - guess I don't even need a gps now I can just hunt for other cachers - now that is an interesting turn.

Hey Turtles,

You just discovered a new game variant. We all meet at Location X. Canadian Bacon heads out from who knows where to points unknown. Back at the Location X the gun goes off.

The first one to track CB down and touch him wins.

And CB can carry one of those huge ammo cans, and when he gets tired of runnin' with it, he can just leave his cell in it, and go for a beer. Whoever finds the can and phone, gets to buy a round for CB when they give the phone back to him. What a FTF de-prize for de-hounds.
