There has always been an alert sytsem for members, but mistakenly it was using an old databse table to determine who was a BCGA member, and not the built in 'User Group' that we switched to some time back.

While fixing a user who was not getting the email, I noticed the mistake, and now we sent out emails to aybody who :
1) Has newsletter turned ON in their profile.
2) Has set up a location in (home page, right side)

The system will email new cahes, with the distance from eache location the set up , for example I have my home and work coordinates.

Could this be adjusted so that we can recieve the newsletter, but not the cache alerts? I get the notications from groundspeak for my own area, and these new alerts just ain't what I need.

We have never used the newsletter to send newsletters, so I suppose you could just turn off the feature. I can't speak for what the new executive will do in terms of communication, but they have the option to send out to various user groups too, which might do in place of the newsletters.
