Hello fellow geocachers,

as you may see, I've just joined BC geocaching forum (although I had an account on main site for a while), and I need an advice immediately Smile

I've never organized any events. However, the opportunity have arisen two weeks ago, when my son made it to Provincials (speed swimming).

Provincials is a big thing for swimmers, and people come from all over the province. There will be about 1200 swimmers, and probably just as many parents and siblings. So, I thought, what are the odds that someone's parent is a geocacher? Do you think they would appreciate little on-the-side event, apart from cheering their kids? Provincials go on for a whole week, but speed swimming alone takes three days (Friday to Sunday), and it's in Mundy park (Coquitlam) - home to many great geocaches.

I'm a parent of Coquitlam Shark - home club for this event. Technically, the region is hosting an event, but it's our club pool, and I'll be on duty for at least two days. I can still sneak out, though, for a quick chat and meet & greet.

Being myself, I was putting it off for too long. Is a week too short for an event notice? People will be there anyway, so there is no need to specifically go anywhere.

What do you think, guys?

1 week is too short notice for the event to be posted on the gc website, 2 weeks is usually the minimum time needed between event submission and the actual event date.

I'm sure there will be at least a few cachers there, parents, kids, or even swimmers themselves. I've been part of the Nanaimo Riptides Swim Team (winter) for over 10 years and took up caching while I was a swimmer with the club. For the past few years I've been working as a coach with the team and have coached/taught some kids that were cachers.

Thank you. Yes, a week is too short - but it worth a try. I'll post with results in a week.
