Hi all, we are in the process of creating some BCGA pins as part of a project that we are going to announce in the next couple of days.

Time is very tight, but I would like to invite people to submit their ideas, either on this thread or to me by e-mail at chris @ landsharkz.ca We may or may not use the designs (or a component of the designs) but we would appreciate your input and ideas. We want it to clearly indicate that it is a BCGA pin, otherwise I'll leave it open for input. We need ideas by midnight Friday please.

We have funding for these and other items from the provincial government... stay tuned for more info.

Thanks!
Chris

Not knowing the context of what the pins are for, it is hard to suggest ideas.

Are these swag for caches, give-aways at events? A free-be I will receive in the mail? Is it related to some other organization, Gov't, Olympics, Year of the Ox?

Who will get them? Who is giving them out?

I 2nd Henry's questions, very curious as to what might be on the agenda.. I know how many talented people we have as members of the BCGA as when they have had adequate time they submit some amazing ideas. So that way any programs the BCGA is involved with reflect the opinions of the majority of our members.

Chris I'm sure if you've only announced the last few days that you can more then extend to submit so that way the members are allowed their opportunity to be creative. What is the deadline? I know that sometimes things happen quickly, and had you been aware of programs in the planning for a while and needed this you would have asked well in advance and there is no way you would have had any idea about it since like February. What is the program about?

As a member of the voting BCGA I am very much looking forward to knowing what is going to be happening in the caching community!

Yes, there is something coming up... and the time-line is tight. It involves the BC government (similar to last year). The pins will be swag and give-outs. We were going to just use the BCGA logo, but I'm open to ideas about what the BCGA means to you... The pins will be used for the initiative we'll announce shortly, but they will also be around as swag and giveaways for the next year or two, so they are not to be designed with any specific theme... just BCGA.

So, if anyone would like to provide an idea that is purely BCGA... that's it... just BCGA... please do so. Midnight Friday is the deadline. No we have not had any confirmation on funds until a few days ago, so were not in a position to do this until now... and we are not in a position to extend deadlines. If no ideas come forth, then we'll be going with the BCGA logo on its own.

Thanks for considering this... I look forward to any thoughts people may have. Sorry for the tight time-line, but that is what we have.

Chris

I've always been fond of the round BCGA logo. It's simple and easy to read. But the other logo would work just as well.

I guess we are are referring to

My only suggestion would be that it does not need to say BCGA & British Columbia Geocaching Association on the same pin.

If some of the previous artwork/ideas could be incorporated into the 4 quadrants possibly? Jay/Raven/Bear/Whale etc.

And/Or extend the vertical line from the center area past the outer ring with an 'N' for north/arrow etc.

There is also an idea the BCGA had for a coin a few years back. It could be incorporated into a pin if people like it.

This pin aint big enough for the both of us, BUSTER!

Since pigs are not native to BC, the skunk must be on it. **teehee**

A dogwood design. Not the greatest but it could be the beginning of something better if you think the dogwood is the way to go...

About four pics inside the BCGA logo...

It depends on how big the pin will be. Most pins are not that large and that would make the pictures inside the BCGA logo very very tiny. About the size of a favicon.

Seen some of these before Smile I like the map, I like the dogwood, I like the ring. They all look good... How about the dogwood and map combined somehow... inside the ring. Hmmm. Some have heard it said size doesn't matter, but in this case, it'll be in the region of 25mm across. So there is no room for the skunk AND the pig... you guys will have to fight it out. Let me know who wins.

Can you do the BCGA ring as the middle of the dogwood flower? With the lines going to the edge and a N arrow as mentioned by CB in an earlier post.

The wording around the edge of the dogwood could then be removed. For color I suppose you could use the colors of the 4 quadrants in the geocaching.com logo in the middle of the BCGA ring.

Thank you Scruff, CB & HwyGuy for the ideas. I will put the actual pin design together this weekend and I like & will use your ideas...

Cheers,

Please remember that the ideas above were only suggestions. I don't expect the BCGA to use them. But the BCGA can use part or all of the design if they want. I did them for the BCGA anyway. I have no doubt we will see a cool finished product.

Looking forward to these - we just made a trip to Saskatoon, and ordered some Canadian cacher pins for trading, but any of these potential BC specific pins would have been perfect!

Thought you might like to see this... Currently in production; they will be arriving soon, and will be one component of the Project BlueSky initiative we are working on with the BC Government.

Thanks Scruff for the inspiration for the design - re-arranged a bit to make it work for a pin. Oh, and I couldn't leave out the Queen Charlottes. Perhaps if your skunk version had the QCs, I might have used that one as it was Smile

Correct me if I don't get this bang on as I'm not directly involved with this project but my understanding is that the pins will be in the ProjectBlueSky caches that are hidden and will be released in the next few weeks!

Now if we can just convince each cacher to just take ONE pin so others can also get one.

In the BC Parks event for the 150 year celebration, I am aware of some cachers taking coins from multiple caches and there not being any left for many others.

Nothing wrong with taking one from each cache - BUT not in the spirit I would hope should be out there.

We have put a note with each coin stating " Please ONLY take ONE coin. If you have one of these coins from another geocache, please leave this coin for another person. Thank you."
AND folks it does not mean you go and try and get ONE coin of EACH finish- it means ONE coin total but of course as said I guess it the spirit of how you want to play the game.

These cards were put in for exactly the reason you stated- so that cachers around the province get a chance to find a coin or a pin and not just one cacher that has the opportunity to find a whole bunch of FTF gets all the coins and great swag items.

I would also like to mention that these are trade items so please TRADE for the pins and coins in the caches. Last year we had caches with nothing left in them as people took all the great stuff but left nothing. These are regular caches folks, if you take something, please leave something !
