It's exciting to see a new photo contest happening. I will now have to cut my hibernation short and start caching and taking pics. I have one question about the rules, though.

It says "original photo file may be requested to verify photo data." Does anyone know what the "photo file" is and how I can retrieve it?

Thanks.

I'm sure the original photo file refers to the actual file that the camera created when taking the picture. This file is encoded with information such as the time and date that the picture was taken and other useful information about camera settings.

If you have a picture viewer, even something as plain as Microsoft Picture Manager, if you open the picture in that program and select Properties, it will show you the camera settings at the time the picture was taken.

For example, you will see the camera make and model, F stop, flash on or off, distance to subject, etc.
I imagine they will use that to verify it is a picture taken by you and not obtained from somewhere on the 'Net.

Thanks. That's a great help. I didn't know digital photos had all that info. Now how do you get it from the Kodak film I've been using. **teehee** I usually use the digital camera for snapshots but I have a great old Cannon A1 that I use when I want to take professional shots.

Until I get a better digital camera my professional Cannon film camera really does capture a scene much better.

Case in point. I used my digital camera when I found these critters doing the nasty on my back porch. Not great shots but I do love the guilty look in the racoons eyes when they were caught in the act. The photos were taken well before the contest but if they were submitted would they fit into the urban or wildlife category??? **snarfle**

For those that are interested, yes, I left them after that to do whatever they wanted and placed strawberries and sparkling wine on the steps (the only way down from the porch). The bowls were empty when I got up in the morning.

Maybe there should be another category for contributing to the delinquency of wildlife.

Now that made me laugh. Of course the BCGA does have an automatic censor to curb vulgar language but I didn't know it censored parts of larger words. Way cool

I was so excited to get out and snap photos for the contest but from the day I could get out the lower mainland has been socked in with fog. Days and days of heavy fog. I can't see the neighbour's house. **sigh** Not ideal for photography. More hibernation for me.

Eventually everything gets looked into...
The site has been modified, so that now Qualicum, Document, and any other word with those same three letters inside it, will pass through the bad word censor.

It's amazing how the deadlines sneak up on ya. I got to vote in the nick of time. There were a lot of really good photos submited for this contest. It will be interesting to see if my choices mesh with the general public.

I'll be ready for the next contest. Yes, I will.
